KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit kicked off the first day of trading in the new year on a soft note against the stronger US dollar, extending the losses seen on the last day of trading in 2016.

At 9 am(0100gmt) Tuesday, the ringgit was quoted at 4.4850/4890 against the US dollar compared with 4.4845/4875 on Dec 30, 3016.
