KUALA LUMPUR: AXA Affin General Insurance Bhd’s (AAGI) gross written premiums (GWP) in Sabah and Sarawak have surpassed RM100mil this year.

In a statement on Tuesday, AAGI said this was the first time it had surpassed the RM100mil mark in the two states, which was achieved in the first 11 months of this year.

“The achievement further strengthens our position in Sabah and Sarawak markets, solidifying our position among the top five general insurers in the market,” it said.

The first AAGI branch in East Malaysia was opened in 1979 and has since grown to five fully operational branches in Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.

AAGI has grown from RM50mil GWP in 2011 and now RM100mil in 2016, protecting over 103,000 customers in these regions.

Chief executive officer Emmanuel Nivet said AAGI, as a group, had been rapidly expanding in Asia-Pacific, with Malaysia being one of the key markets.

“Locally, we have also been seeing strong positive growth in the past few years, especially last year which saw us grow 18% in 2015,” he said.

AAGI credits the achievements to the strong performance of its team in Sabah and Sarawak and the support of distribution channels, which include over 600 professional agents, brokers, direct corporate, franchise and bank partners.

AAGI has a well-balanced portfolio which includes motor, health, personal accident, home, travel, small medium enterprises and commercial insurance packages nationwide. - Bernama
