KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd is expected to begin awarding tenders for the RM9bil Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT 3) project by year-end.

President/group chief executive officer Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz said currently the company was in the process of reviewing proposals from bidders.

“We are also in the midst of land acquisition,” he told reporters at the Rapid KL Deepavali celebration in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

The construction of the LRT3 project, which will connect two million people between Bandar Utama and Klang, is scheduled to begin early next year and to be completed by Aug 31, 2020.

In a related development, Azmi said Prasarana had intensified its effort to achieve 1.5 million ridership daily by July 2017, covering rail and bus operations in the Klang Valley, Penang and Kamunting, Perak.

“We are positive that the target is achievable based on encouraging response from various promotions offered,” he said.

Azmi said its recent off-peak promotion, introduced in September to reduce congestion during peak hours, had received a good response. - Bernama
