KUALA LUMPUR: Naza Quest Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor of General Motors products, aims to sell 2,200 Chevrolet vehicles next year and increase its market share to 3% of the total industry volume.
Its vice-president, head of company, Mohd Farid Rosli said the company would be leveraging its all-new Colorado pick-up truck which was expected to contribute about 60% of its sales.
“Colorado has always been the major contributor to our volume, accounting for about 3,000 units since its launch in 2014.
“We are now targeting to sell 1,300 Colorado pick-up trucks next year and hope the new model will continue the momentum and win a bigger market share,” he told reporters at the launch of Colorado pick-up truck in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
The launch was officiated by group executive chairman of Naza World Group of Companies Datuk Wira SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin.
Mohd Farid said the company was targeting to sell about 1,000 Chevrolet vehicles this year, slightly higher than 952 units in 2015 and about 850 vehicles were already sold in the first nine months of this year.
The new pick-up truck will be made available in five different variants, with three powered by a 2.5-litre engine, and the rest, a 2.8-litre.
The market share of the previous Colorado Chevrolet, available only with a 2.8-litre engine, made up only 10% of 60,000 pick-up trucks sold yearly.
With more variants, comprising bigger and smaller engine capacity, made available, Naza Quest believes it could capture a bigger market, SM Faizal said.
He said the company planned to open five more sale outlets next year to bring the total to 30 to improve its visibility and distribution, covering Kedah, Terengganu, and a few cities in Sabah and Sarawak.
The company, which currently has 21 service centres nationwide, is also expanding its automotive part supply capability by having its own warehouse in Shah Alam in order to control stocks, he added.
On the government’s plan to introduce the B10 biofuel programme by the fourth quarter of this year, he said it was not an issue to the company as all Chevrolet vehicles were biodiesel-compatible. - Bernama
