SEGAMAT: The Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) on Tuesday introduced the e-licensing system to replace its existing information system to provide better access for the public to be involved in the rubber business.

Plantations Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister, Datuk Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur, said the new system allowed users to register and check the status of their own licence application.

“I hope the public will take advantage of this as they no longer need to come to our offices to register, renew, amend, cancel or appeal for licences and permits,” he told reporters at the Licensing and Quality Awareness Day in Jagoh, Johor, on Tuesday.

Datu Nasrun said he hoped all parties involved in the day’s programme understood the rules set by the MRB in maintaining the quality of rubber.

“I hope all entrepreneurs including smallholders focus on the quality of rubber to maintain Malaysia’s image as a high quality rubber producer,” he said.

Datu Nasrun said due to the fall in rubber prices, the Government introduced the Rubber Production Incentive (IPG) scheme to aid smallholders.

“With a RM200mil allocation from Budget 2016, each rubber planter was given a rubber transaction authority permit card, which entitles them to claim the difference from the current farm gate prices called Price Level Activation.

“The 21,313 rubber smallholders nationwide registered with us are enjoying this under the IPG and those who have yet to register must do so to receive the benefit,” he said.

Also present at the programme were MRB chairman Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah and MRB director-general Dr Mohd Akbar Md Said. - Bernama
