KUALA LUMPUR: Advertising industry veteran Khoo Kar Khoon (pic) has joined publishing group Media Chinese International Ltd (MCIL) as an independent non-executive director effective Thursday.

In filings with Bursa Malaysia, MCIL said the former communications director of Nestle Malaysia and immediate past president of the Malaysian Advertisers Association would also become chairman of its nomination committee.

Khoo, 51, began his career with Coopers & Lybrand in 1990 after graduation. He then built his career in the advertising industry, joining Bates Advertising in 1991 as cost accountant.

He was one of the key founders of Zenith Media, which was established in 1995 and is a pioneer media specialist in Malaysia.

Khoo joined Nestle Products Sdn Bhd in 2000 as media manager and was subsequently promoted to communications director.

Khoo’s term at MCIL will run until March 31, 2018, and he is subject to retirement by rotation and re-election at the company’s AGMs.

MCIL publishes four Chinese-language newspapers in the country, namely Sin Chew Daily, China Press, Guang Ming Daily and Nanyang Siang Pau.
