The ringgit strengthened against the major currencies, climbing to 3.8917 to the US dollar from the previous close of 3.9295. It was at 5.5703 to the pound sterling from 5.5745 while it firmed up against the Singapore dollar to 2.8866 from 2.8986. It edged up against the euro to 4.4069 from 4.4430.
Genting Bhd lost 10 sen to RM9.08, Genting Malaysia three sen to RM4.50.
As for telcos, Maxis lost five sen to RM5.98, Digi three sen to RM4.66, Telekom and Axiata one sen each to RM6.69 and RM5.89.
Crude palm oil for third month delivery rose RM21 to RM2,689 per tonne. However, PPB Group fell 24 sen to RM16.34, TAHPS 15 sen to RM6.35, Far East 11 sen to RM7.62 and KLK eight sen to RM23.92 while IOI Corp shed two sen to RM4.47.
Pecca, which made its debut on the Main Market, rose 24 sen to RM1.66 with 45.7 million shares done.
Spring Gallery added eight sen to 77.5 sen, its warrants jumped 13 sen to 22.5 sen and SGB-PA added four sen to 10.5 sen in active trade.
NWP, which was queried by Bursa Securities over the unusual market activity, ended the morning 5.5 sen higher at 26.5 sen.
AirAsia and its affiliate AirAsia X continued to attract heavy volumes. AirAsia rose four sen to RM2.09, AAX 0.5 sen to 35 sen and the warrants flat at 18.5 sen.
