Put away the books and laptops, just whip out your phones if you want to ski!

FROM scoring cheap lift tickets to finding your friends on the mountain, here are a few of the best apps for your ski holiday.

Liftopia (Free, iOS) - This app offers discounts of up to 80% off ski lift tickets and rentals at more than 150 ski resorts around the globe, from Alaska to the Alps. For those without an iPhone, check out the website at www.liftopia.com.

Waze (Free, iOS, Android) – Get to the mountain without the hassle of traffic jams with this crowdsourced mapping app that alerts users to traffic, accidents, and black ice.

Ski and Snow Report (Free, iOS, Android)

Ideal for powder lovers. App staffers analyse and post snowfall data all day long, making the figures more reliable than what the resorts themselves often claim.

iTrailMap 3D (US$4.99 - RM16.05, iOS)

This app lets you access some 750 interactive topo resort maps around the globe, download them onto your phone, and access them anywhere on the mountain, no WiFi or mobile service needed. A standard non-3D version is available for Android.

Ski Tracks (US$0.99 – RM3.19, iOS)

This app uses your phone’s GPS to provide a data-filled snapshot of your day on the slopes, logging the steepest slope you rode to your maximum speed.

Find My Friends (Free, iOS, Android)

Once you and your pals download the app and agree to share your locations, this app can tell you precisely where to spot each other on the mountain. – AFP Relaxnews
