Peru is a country full of heritage and culture and not all of us have the good luck to be able to visit it, but one never knows. So for those who have been there and miss it, and for those would like to go, a photo exhibition in town of the archaeological wonders of Peru might just be the perfect sampler for that.
THANKS to the efforts of the Embassy of Peru and the Peruvian Ambassador to Malaysia himself, Marco V. Balarezo, photo exhibition on Peru has made it to our shores. What the visitor can expect to see at the exhibition is some stunning images of the most important archaeological pieces in the country.
They are sourced from the the vast and diverse collection of the Museo Larco in Lima (http://www.museolarco.org). Founded in 1926, the museum showcases remarkable chronological galleries providing an excellent overview on 3000 years of development of Peruvian pre-Columbian history.
With these photographs, the Embassy of Peru, the “Larco Museum” and the University of Malaya have organised an interesting exhibition called “A Journey to the Ancient Culture of Peru”, which contains a powerful message from the past, that yet has great relevance on today’s world.
True prosperity can only be build from the knowledge of our own roots. The message being – “We must know where we came from, in order to know where we are going”.
The exhibition is organised by chapters of different subjects. These are Ceremonial Toast; Duality; Three Worlds; Death and Transformation; Music and Dance; Sacrifice rituals; and Gods’ Dresses.
Since arriving in Malaysia in mid-2012, Ambassador Balarezo has been making efforts to promote all areas of bilateral relations between Peru and Malaysia. And with special emphasis on people-to-people links, based on the conviction that greater knowledge and understanding between people is the best way to solidify a relationship that aspires to be mutually beneficial and of long term.
The exhibition is being held at the Galeri Seni University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur till Oct 30 (9am to 5pm).
