No longer just for romantic getaways or family fun, cruises now offer packages for niche markets.
CURIOUS intellectuals, inquiring minds and self-confessed geeks may be interested in a new cruise package that sails from Miami to Peru with producers and personalities from the highest-rated science series on US TV.
Artful Travelers, which specialises in creating cultural and educational travel experiences, has announced the launch of a cruise along the Panama Canal with the people behind NOVA, an award-winning – and the most-watched – documentary series on US public television.
During the 14-night cruise, which departs Miami and winds its way to Lima, Peru, guests will be able to meet with the producers of NOVA and engage in thought-provoking panel discussions with speakers who specialise in politics, current events, and culture.
There will also be opportunities for one-on-one conversations, cocktail receptions and private dinners with personalities throughout the cruise.
The Regent Seven Seas Cruises ship departs January next year and ports of call include Curacao, Aruba, Colombia and Ecuador.
The niche cruise market is an ever-expanding one, with themes that cater to all types of travellers, from Star Trek to soap opera and music fans.
Artful Travelers also offers a cruise package in partnership with public broadcasting programmes Frontline and American Experience later this year. Indian Ocean Odyssey travels to India, Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar, Malaysia and Sri Lanka with personalities from the shows.
