Privacy is a priority for Southeast Asia’s largest land transport brand, as it has introduced a new feature to keep both passengers' and drivers' info private.
Its MyTeksi app now has a new number masking feature that will replace the caller’s and driver’s number with a virtual one.
Both the driver and passenger can use the virtual number to contact each other without revealing their real mobile numbers.
The virtual number will stay active starting from when the booking is confirmed until the passenger reaches his or her destination. This also works for advanced bookings.
The company said the call will be rerouted via local telecommunication carriers to ensure a reliable connection and good call quality.
Passengers can also leave specific pick-up instructions to drivers via the “Notes to driver” feature if they prefer not to call.
This is part of MyTeksi’s continuing efforts to improve driver and passenger safety, and MyTeksi has committed US$6mil (RM25.2mil) to develop more of such features.
“We must always stay vigilant and believe that the key to ensuring the best ride is by introducing preventive measures such as limiting the personal details available to both parties,” said Vincent Tan, acting head of MyTeksi.
The feature is gradually being rolled out to users in both Malaysia and Singapore and will be available to all users in both countries by the end of October.
Users in Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam will be getting the feature by November.
