Movies on the move: You can now rent and purchase movies for as low as RM10 on the Google Play store.

Google has finally made its Play Movies service available in Malaysia which allows Android users to rent or purchase standard definition and high definition movies starting at RM10.

Users will be able to purchase movies from the Google Play store itself, just like how they can buy books and apps now. However, to watch the movies they will have to download the Google Play Movies app.

In a statement is said: “Today, we’re adding movies to Google Play in Malaysia, showcasing high-definition, full-length feature films from major Hollywood studios including blockbusters like Kingsman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Interstellar and Ghostbusters.”

Users who opt to rent will be given 30 days to watch the movie – once they hit the play button, they have 48 hours to finish viewing it.

The service is not limited to the Android ecosystem as the Google Play Movies app is also available for download on the Chrome Web Store for desktops and laptops, and Apple App Store for iPhones and iPads.

With the roll out of Play Movies and the availability of Play Books in Malaysia, only Play Music has yet to see daylight here.

If you already have the Play Movies app on your smartphone, you will have to update it in order to access the new service.

Google says it’s still in the midst of rolling out the feature and it will be made available to users in stages, and most will be able to access the service by the end of the day. At this point the company will only be releasing movies and not TV shows.
