'Pearl Harbor' trends on Twitter after US soccer victory over Japan

BRINGING UP OLD WOUNDS: US players lifting the FIFA Women's World Cup trophy after defeating Japan in the final of the FIFA 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada. Trust certain quarters to make racist remarks during what should be a time of celebration.

The Twitterverse lit up with references to the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor after the 5-2 US victory over Japan in the Women's World Cup championship match but other Twitter users called those comments offensive. 

"Hey Japan, that one was for Pearl Harbor. U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A," Twitter user Cloyd Rivers wrote in a tweet that was "favourited" more than 15,000 times and retweeted 10,200 times.
