One in five people are now on Facebook

SUPER POPULAR: Half of the world's population has Internet access and almost half of that number also have a Facebook page.

As well as announcing rising profits, in its latest earnings call Facebook revealed that it's still attracting new users and that membership has jumped another 13% year on year to a remarkable 1.39 billion monthly users. 

According to the United Nations' and the United States Census Bureau's calculations, there are currently 7 billion people on the planet. That means that 20% of the people on Earth are also active Facebook users.
