COMING TO THEATRES: 'Minecraft' was part of a Microsoft studio buyout in September; Warner Bros retains movie rights.

Warner Bros' deal to produce a movie based on the hit game Minecraft is still alive, as it approaches Shawn Levy for the director's role.

The studio has already found success with its adaptation of Lego blocks and figures into The Lego Movie, and there is considerable conceptual overlap between the Danish plastic brick empire and that of Swedish digital bestseller Minecraft, which was in September acquired by Microsoft as part of a US$2.5bil (RM8.17bil) deal.
