MDeC announces appointment of new CEO

Taking the lead: Dato' Yasmin Mahmood will be taking on the position of chief executive officer at MDeC. She has over 25 years of experience within the IT industry.

Kuala Lumpur: Datuk Yasmin Mahmood has been appointed the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) effective Sept 15. 

Prior to this, she had held leadership positions as executive director of YTL e-Solutions Bhd, managing director of Microsoft Malaysia Sdn Bhd, regional manager of Dell Asia Pacific and general manager of HP Sales Malaysia. 

She had also contributed actively to organisations such as the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Consortium of Services Malaysia and the Women Development Panel of SME Corp Malaysia. 

Yasmin has over 25 years of experience in the industry and will be overseeing the overall growth of MDeC initiatives including MSC Malaysia and Digital Malaysia. 

Since its inception in 1996, the MSC Malaysia initiative has been responsible for creating more than 130,000 jobs, RM123bil in revenue and RM153bil in investments. 

Meanwhile, Digital Malaysia had its beginnings in 2011 when MDeC was mandated by the Prime Minister to play a part in driving the nation’s transition towards becoming a developed digital economy by 2020. The initiative aims to build an ecosystem that promotes the pervasive use of information and communications technology in all aspects of the economy in order to facilitate real time interaction and connected communities.
