For the first time ever, 295.3 million devices have shipped in a single quarter and consumer demand is only expected to increase as the year progresses.
But, according to IDC's figures, this demand is coming primarily from emerging markets where consumers are dumping their feature phones in favour of entry-level Android handsets rather than phones from the two companies — Samsung and Apple — that until now have dominated the global market.
