If you are always on the hunt for the best deals then Baucar may be the app for you.
Created by local developers 1337 Tech, Baucar (which stands for voucher in Bahasa Malaysia) is a shopping app that notifies users of on-going deals.
Baucar’s chief executive officer Arsyan Ismail says the app was designed to address the needs of both customers and merchants.
He says customers tend to forget to bring their physical cards and vouchers with them when they go shopping.
“Another problem is that it is all too easy to lose track of the promotion period and before you know it, the deal has expired when you finally find your voucher,” he said.
This won’t be a problem if Baucar is used, as the deals will be pushed directly to the smartphone be it an iPhone or Android.
Also, the app takes advantage of beacons — a device that uses low-energy Bluetooth wireless technology — to detect Baucar users when they are close to a shop to push relevant deals. It also can “check-in” customers that visit a store to reward them with points.
For merchants, Baucar offers a comprehensive back-end system that allows them to create and manage promotions from their computer.
Arsyan says Baucar operates on a pay-per-use model. For instance, a merchant would be charged a fee of 20 sen for each push notification.
The company has signed up more than 2,000 brands since the app launched nine months ago, including Burger King and Dominos Pizza.
He says the company plans to carry out installation of its beacon devices in five malls across the Klang Valley between the month of August to December this year.
In addition, Arsyan hopes to grow the Baucar install base to 100,000 users for both iOS and Android devices by the end of the year.
