USER-GENERATED CONTENT: VirtualMalaysia.com is encouraging users interesting facts on Malaysia on the site.

DISCOVERED something new and interesting about Malaysia and want to share it on social media? Instead of just sharing it with your friends on, say, Facebook, why not post your discovery for a larger community to see on VirtualMalaysia.com.

The online tourism portal, which has been in operation since 1997, underwent a major redesign and now has more interactive and user-generated content to showcase the best of Malaysia.

VirtualMalaysia.com is a platform for users to contribute stories, pictures, travel tips and videos, said Rohizam Yusoff, its founder and chief executive officer.

”It is our aim to highlight the best there is about Malaysian food, culture and destinations with the new VirtualMalaysia.com,” he said.

Rohizam who is also the chief executive officer of SOTA (Smart Online Travel Assistant), an online virtual mall specialising in selling travel packages said, “Previously our content was produced by a team of internal writers and that limited the scope of our articles and stories posted on the portal.”

“With our increased focus on user-generated content we can highlight experiences told by seasoned travellers and this in turn will encourage others to explore new destinations. Of course, we will still moderate the content posted by contributors and ensure that the information is accurate.”

“I am confident that with this new social travel portal, we can help direct more travellers to Malaysia especially with the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2014.”
