In the ever competitive smartphone market there is no end to new smartphones. The latest to launch is Nokia with its flagship Lumia 925 which runs on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform.

The phone is powered by a dual-core 1.5Ghz Snapdragon processor and has 16GB of internal memory. Users will also get an additional space of 7GB on Microsoft’s Skydrive cloud for free.

The smarthphone has a 4.5in  touchscreen and unlike most other phones, it is so sensitive it can even work when the user is wearing gloves. It is also the first Lumia to feature Glance Screen app which displays a clock and if there are incoming messages.

For shooting photos, the phone has a six-element lens and a 8.7-megapixel sensor with dual LED flash. The images can also be tweaked with effects such as Best Shot, Change Faces or Action Shot. There is also a burst mode that can capture 10 images in a row.

The Lumia also features Here Drive+ which comes with offline maps and turn-by-turn navigation.
It weighs only 139g and is 8.5mm thick, making it much thinner than its predecessor.

The success of the Lumia 925 will depend on the popularity of the Windows platform.
Windows Phone 8 is a big step forward but the platform continues to suffer from the lack of awareness in the region, said Gary Chan, Nokia Pan Asia head of marketing.

Most are not aware that there are plenty of apps  for it and it is one of the most customisable platform,” he said.

“Popular apps like Tumblr is already available for Windows Phone and other apps like Flipboard, Pinterest and Path will be making their way to the platform soon,” he said.

The Lumia 925 will hit our shores this month in three colours— white, grey and black with — for RM1,799 each.
