PETALING JAYA: Five-time winner Nicol David has survived, arguably, one of her fiercest opening round matches at the British Open.

The world No. 1 began her title defence on Tuesday with a hard-fought 11-2, 11-4, 7-11, 11-9 win over Welsh qualifier Tesni Evans at the Airco Arena in Hull.
