KUALA LUMPUR: National No. 1 Ong Beng Hee chalked up an easy 11-3, 11-4, 11-5 win over local player Steven Liu in the first round of the Macau Open squash championships on Thursday.
The 33-year-old Penang-born, who won the Royal Lake Club title last weekend, will face top seed Omar Mosaad of Egypt in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Beng Hee last played against the Egyptian in the Kuala Lumpur Open in March, when Mosaad retired after suffering a hamstring injury.
Another Malaysian, qualifier Ivan Yuen, failed to clear the first round after going down 7-11, 6-11, 9-11 to Max Lee of Hong Kong.
In the women’s competition, national No. 3 Delia Arnold defeated qualifier Deon Saffery of Wales 11-6, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9 in the first round.
The eighth-seeded Delia will face third seed Dipika Pallikal of India in the quarter-finals.
Dipika defeated qualifier Salma Hani Ibrahim of Egypt 11-1, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7 in the first round.
