PETALING JAYA: Commonwealth Games-bound shooter Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi ended her World Cup campaign with a bang.
Suryani put up a gallant display to finish a creditable fifth with a 422.3 total in the women’s 50m three-position event in Beijing on Saturday. Her previous best effort was sixth in Sydney in 2010.
For Suryani, it was her second appearance in the final. On Thursday, she was placed eighth in the 10m air rifle.
Team-mates Muslifah Zulkifli and Haslisa Hamed, however, failed to shine on Saturday. Muslifah chalked up 567 points to finish 28th while Haslisa was placed 37th with a 554 total.
In the men’s 50m three-position event, the Malaysian shooters also struggled to find their form.
Mohd Hadafi Jaafar (1,149) was the best Malaysian finisher in 32nd spot. Muhd Hassanul Mohd Badrin emerged 35th with a 1,147 total while Mohd Zubair Muhd accumulated 1,146 points for 38th spot.
Siti Nur Masitah Mohd Badrin and Joceline Cheah both shot an identical 380 total to be placed 15th and 16th respectively in the women’s 10m air pistol event. Wahida Ismail managed 37th spot with a 369 total.
