Benjamin guns down another national record

PETALING JAYA: Young national elite shooter Benjamin Khor is on track for next month’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 20-year-old set a new national record in the men’s double trap event at the ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany, on Monday. He shot 28-29-25-24-30 for a total of 136 points to finish 31st out of 51 competitors to better his own national mark of 132.

It was the second time Benjamin had broken the national record this year. In April, he rewrote his own national mark by shooting 132 to beat the old record of 130 at the Iskandar Trophy championships.

“I’m really delighted I managed to get a pretty decent score. Unfortunately, I was a little affected by the two bad rounds (third and fourth), but I’m satisfied with how it all turned out,” said Benjamin.

“Managing to shoot a perfect score in the last round is a big confidence booster. I just received my new gun (Perazzi shotgun courtesy of Kulim Malaysia Berhad) and been working on it. I’m very contented with the gun. My average scores have gone up quite considerably.

“The next step for me is to continue to work hard on improving my shooting. I hope to hit my stride at the Commonwealth and Asian Games (in South Korea inSeptember).”
