National shooter Bibiana Ng kisses her pistol after winning the 10m air pistol gold medal at the New Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2011.
SUBANG: Pistol shooter Bibiana Ng Pei Chin has one goal in life and that is to feature in the Olympics.
The Kuching-born Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who is based in Bukit Aman, is so focused on her goal that she has no time for much else, not even to settle down.
Bibiana, who turns 37 on June 16, is still asked why she’s not married.
“Many of my friends have asked me why I am still single, I tell them that I love shooting and will continue to compete for Malaysia in competitions as long as I can. I have no time to get married just yet.
“Shooting is like wine – the older you get, the better you become,” said Bibiana, who will be featuring in her fifth consecutive Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Bibiana, who has donned national colours since the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games, has represented Malaysia for 16 years but has yet to feature in the Olympics.
She has a proven track record in the Commonwealth Games, having bagged a total of six medals in the past four Games – one gold, three silvers and two bronzes.
Her best achievement was at the 2010 New Delhi Games, where she won the gold in the 10m air pistol individual event.
However, for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Bibiana has failed to qualify for the 10m air pistol event.
Instead, she has qualified for the 25m sports pistol by amassing 586 points at the Myanmar SEA Games last December, surpassing the qualifying mark of 570 points.
Bibiana said that she has no regrets about not qualifying for the 10m air pistol but is confident that she will win a medal in the 25m sports pistol in Glasgow, although the competition will be stiff.
At the Tun Hanif Trophy Shooting Championships, which ended on Sunday, Bibiana only managed fifth placing in the qualifying round with a poor score of 573 points in the 25m sports pistol event.
However, she proved that she is the best woman pistol shooter by gunning down 13 points in the final to win the gold.
