Keeping the faith in the Blues

SO the Champions League dream is over.

Technically Chelsea didn’t play too badly, but an efficient counter attack by Atletico Madrid put paid to the Blues’ chances of making the final once more.

Given that we played at our home fortress of Stamford Bridge, and the excellent record we had at home, that defeat was a little hard to swallow.

But a team missing several key players, namely vice-captain Frank Lampard and goalie Petr Cech, with Eden Hazard probably not back to his best yet, had a realistically slim chance of going through to the final.

Thus a defeat, in retrospect, is acceptable. But it is the rebuilding of the squad for next season that matters the most to us now.

With just two more matches left, winning the Premier League doesn’t seem very likely either.

With Manchester City still very much in the driving seat with a game in hand, and with fewer obstacles ... they are the favourites.

For Chelsea to finish the season with any sort of silverware, we need City to drop at least the game against Everton, and for Liverpool to continue exposing their weaknesses and lose another of their remaining two matches.

That said, if Chelsea do end up winning something, it would be nothing short of a miracle.

But I’m not betting on any sort of miracles.

Chelsea have enjoyed an excellent season by their standards – wins against all the top teams in the EPL is no mean feat.

There just wasn’t enough in the team on the occasional bad days to push ourselves through.

The signs though, have been promising, and if Jose Mourinho, ever the Special One to all Blues, works his magic in the summer transfer window and strengthens the squad in the right areas, Chelsea will be back even stronger next season.

So, let’s keep the blue spirit strong and our heads high as we enter the penultimate match of the season.

Norwich have had a disastrous season and look likely to lose out on EPL survival especially after the nonsensical sacking of Chris Hughton.

So it’s very likely for Chelsea to rack up the boards in terms of scoring goals as we look to finish at least in the top two.

At the end of the day, just Keep the Blue Flag Flying High.

Kng Zheng Guan is not too disappointed with Chelsea’s season and believes next year will be even better.
