IT’S full steam ahead for Chelsea as the Blues are now four points clear at the top of the standings, although Manchester City still have two games in hand.
But it won’t be easy to catch the Blues, who know how to keep the advantage once they get their foot in front – unlike the sorry Gunners!
Jose Mourinho’s rotation policy worked to perfection last week with Andre Schurrle scoring his first hat-trick for the team against Fulham.
That was despite a largely anonymous first half in which he was either running straight into Fulham players or doing nothing worthwhile with the ball.
The German is actually a very decent player ... a bit of an out-and-out winger who can also double up as a second striker.
With Willian and Oscar’s form dipping recently, Schurrle was bound to get a start. And, he definitely made a lasting impression, didnt’t he?
Prior to the start of the season, Chelsea received plenty of flak for buying so many attacking midfielders.
The fact that Chelsea shipped Juan Mata off to Manchester United, and bought an unknown winger in Mohamed Salah, only generated more hate mail for the team.
But guess who will be having the last laugh ... when the league title comes back to Stamford Bridge?
With Schurrle starting to get into his stride, the team can only go from strength to strength.
The former Bayer Leverkusen man may not be as technically gifted as Oscar or Willian, but his willingness to run at opponents adds a new dimension to Chelsea’s attacking options.
It’s now up to the Blues to continue doing what they do best – grind out results – and keep the lead.
It’s also a pretty good time to return to the Stamford Bridge fortress as Chelsea welcome Spurs over the weekend.
After a decent start to life as manager, Tim Sherwood is finally coming to terms with what his team are lacking.
That they got whipped 3-0 at home by Liverpool, of all teams, says it all!
It’s not that Spurs are short on quality ... they are just ... well, a confused team, like United.
So, unless they can keep a tight leash on Eden Hazard and shackle Schurrle, that’s three points in the bag surely for the Blues.
So Keep The Blue Flag Flying High!
Kng Zheng Guan believes that Chelsea are in place to seriously harm their rivals’ title challenge, from a psychological perspective, with Liverpool and Arsenal not playing this weekend.
