Wanderers chasing ninth Sevens title

KUALA LUMPUR: Negri Sembilan Wanderers will be gunning for a record ninth Super League title in the 16th edition of International Power Royal Sevens rugby tournament at the Seremban Municipal Council pitch on June 21-22.

The Negri team, who beat Keris Conlay 29-7 in last year’s final, will face a strong challenge from three foreign teams this year – Taiwan’s RFU, Chinese Rugby FA and Singapore Rugby Union.

The other local teams to feature in the Super League division are Keris Conlay, Cobra Blacks, Iskandar Raiders, Polis Bersatu, Asas and the Malaysia National Sevens squad, who are preparing for next month’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The two-day tournament will have three divisions – Super League, Premier League and schools teams.

The Premier League teams are Singapore Malays, NS Perantau, Sibu Rugby Club, Royal Selangor Club (RSC) Dog, Cobra Development Team, Rama-Rama Conlay, Army JLJ, Bangi Hunters, Sikamat Gunners, Zaaba Old Boys, SSTMI, Majlis Perbandaran Klang, RMAF Black Hawk, Falcon Rugby Club, Politeknik Merlimau, Mersing Eagles Junior and Samsira Old Boys.

Those competing in the schools category are Singapore Malays, Johor Rugby Academy, KL Saracens, SSNS Zaaba, Kolej Vokasional Lela Maharaja, SMK King George V, SMK Tuanku Muhamad, SMK Syed Sirajuddin, Kolej Vokasional Arau, SM Alam Shah, SMS Hulu Selangor, SSTMI Junior, SBPI Kuantan, Royal Military College (RMC) and Terengganu.
