KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin will announce Malaysia’s official medal target for next month’s Incheon Asian Games during the flag-handing ceremony in Putrajaya on Sept 11.
Asiad chef de mission Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah said the 25 participating sports were asked to submit their targets on Monday.
“The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) executive board will then come up with an official target based on the supporting documentations.
“We won nine golds at the last Asian Games, but there are other factors we have to take into account like the condition of our athletes and the standards of our competitors,” added Danyal after a briefing for the Asiad-bound team managers on the same day.
Malaysia have entered 288 athletes and 133 officials for the Games.
There will be a centralised training camp for the Incheon-bound athletes in Putrajaya from Sept 8-12.
