GLASGOW: Malaysia’s top singles player Siti Zalina Ahmad has lost to Saikia Nayanmoni of India 21-15 in the opening Group B match at the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre on Thursday.
The two-time Commonwealth Games champion, who won back-to-back gold medals in Manchester (2002) and Melbourne (2006) has a chance to make the knock-out stage provided she wins her remaining matches. Siti will play Carmen Anderson of Norfolk Islands next.
Earlier, the lawn bowls team got off to a good start when they recorded wins in their opening round matches of the men's triples and women's fours events.
The men's triples team, comprising Mohd Amir Yusof, Zulhilmie Redzuan and Fairus Abdul Jabal, defeated the Papua New Guinea team 17-15 while the women’s fours downed Niue Island 19-8.
