Ev makes up lost time with TKO win in Jakarta

PETALING JAYA: A year is a long wait, but it was worth it for Ev Ting who scored a knockout win at the ONE FC: Era of Champions in Jakarta.

Ev went into the featherweight bout gunning for a hometown upset against Indonesia’s Yohan Mulia Legowo. And he got exactly what he wanted with a TKO at 4.35 minutes of round one at the Mata Elang International Stadium on Saturday.

Ev and Legowo were evenly matched in the opening minutes, exchanging head kicks and punches. But Ev got the upper hand, exploding with a flurry of punches that unsettled the 34-year-old Legowo, before landing two solid knees to the face which sent Legowo crashing.

“The fight was really good. Yohan was much tougher that I expected,” said Ev who was unable to get a fight for the past year.

“I’ve been waiting for this fight for two years and I’ve been training hard ... it all paid off.

“I really did not expect him to take the fight standing up, so that caught me by surprise. I thought he would have gone for take downs for sure but he didn’t,” added Ev, who now holds a 7-2 pro fight record.

Meanwhile, in the headlining fight, Brazilian Adriano Moraes continued to impress after he romped to victory over Kosuke Suzuki of Japan with a triangle choke in round three, after 1:35 minutes.

Indonesia’s Fransino Tirta provided some cheer for the home crowd. The 33-year-old was untroubled as he easily took the win over Egyptian Sami Amin with a rear naked choke hold at 1:10 minutes of round one to extend his record to 16-0-1.
