KANGAR: Kelantan weightlifter Siti Aisyah Rosli was bracing for the worst after being suspected of having dengue fever four days before the women’s below 75kg competition in Perlis.

However, her blood test turned out negative and the 19-year-old Form Six student of SMK Bukit Mertajam, Penang, was cleared to compete at the National Youth Skills Training Institute in Kuala Perlis on Monday.

Despite being down with fever, Siti Aisyah bagged both the golds in the snatch (75kg) and clean and jerk (95kg).

After securing the golds with ease, Siti Aisyah went for the meet records, but failed in her bids of lifting 86kg (snatch) and 103kg (clean and jerk).

The current Games records are held by Arisha Farra Erwin of Johor, who achieved a double record feat of 85kg in the snatch and 102kg in the clean and jerk in Malacca in 2010.

“I would have broken the records, especially in the clean and jerk, if I had been healthy,” said Siti Aisyah, a national back-up squad member.

“I found it difficult to adjust to the hot weather in Perlis, and had headache and high body temperature since four days ago. I am still feeling feverish, so I have to be thankful that I could compete and win two golds for Kelantan.”

The Pasir Mas-born Siti Aisyah’s double gold feat ensured that the Kelantan weightlifters equalled the six-gold target set for them before coming to Perlis.

“I am happy to be the lifter who won the sixth gold. There is still another day left in the competition, and I hope my team-mates can help us exceed the target,” said Siti Aisyah.

Besides Siti Aisyah, the other women lifters to win gold for Kelantan are Nur Fariesha Irwana (snatch and clean and jerk in the below 58kg) and Noor Suhaila Muda (snatch and clean and jerk in the below 63kg).
