KUALA LUMPUR: Benedict Cumberbatch, best known for his role in the TV series Sherlock, will be coming here next week.
The British film and television star has been chosen to host the 2014 Laureus World Sports Awards at Istana Budaya on March 26.
Cumberbatch, who has appeared in a series of highly-successful films said he was delighted to host such a prestigious event.
“I have seen the names of all the great sportsmen and women who have been nominated for the Laureus Awards this year, and although I played a great detective in Sherlock, I have to confess I have no idea who is going to win.
“They all seem to have achieved so much but it will be great to be part of such a special event,” he said in a statement issued by the organiser on Wednesday.
The 15th Laureus World Sports Awards, which recognises sporting achievement and excellence, is the premier honours event on the international sporting calendar.
This year's ceremony will be televised live by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) on TV2. – Bernama
