NAYPYITAW: Malaysia's muay team will be challenging for two gold medals on Saturday after Mohd Faizal Ramli kicked his way into the men’s 75kg final.
Faizal, who had enjoyed a one-month training stint in Bangkok, Thailand, fought brilliantly for a 3-0 win over Indonesia’s P. Angga in the semi-finals on Thursday.
His opponent will be local hero Aung Myint Win of Myanmar, who received a bye in the opening match.
Faizal will join Mohd Lokman Akimi Mat Raji in the final round on Saturday. Lokman had made it to the final in the 51kg a day ago and he will take on Vietnam’s Nguyen Ngo Trieu Nhat.
Team manager Saifulnizam Mohd Shahar said: “We have a one-day break before the finals. This is the first time that we are taking part in the SEA Games muay and we are happy that two of our fighters have made it to the finals.
“Both are brave and courageous and we hope they will help Malaysia achieve the 40-medal target,” said Saifulnizam.
