‘Frustrated’ Azim heaves a silver at Commonwealth meet

GEORGE TOWN: Malaysian weightlifter Mohd Azim Najmi vented his frustration of not being able to compete in the SEA Games by breaking a national record in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships at the State Youth and Sports Ministry Hall in Penang on Saturday.

Competing in the men’s 105kg and above event, the burly 27-year-old lifted 191kg in the clean and jerk to erase Che Azrul Che Mat’s previous record of 190kg during the 2007 Korat SEA Games. Azim went on to clinch the silver with a combined total of 348kg.
