Comeback kid Haffiz happy with opening race

PETALING JAYA: Abdul Haffiz Rashid is in no hurry to make an impact on his return to the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix championships this season.

The 21-year-old Sarawakian, who is making a comeback after a one-year break, has quickly adapted to his Honda – finishing sixth in the 15-lap race and picking up 10 points in the opening round in Batu Kawan earlier this month.

“I could not have asked for a better start. Ideally, it would be best to get on the podium but, having skipped a year, sixth is good enough,” said Haffiz, who spent the entire 2012 racing in Sarawak.

“The top riders are very fast and to maintain a consistent lap-time came as a big surprise. It’s clear Honda hold an advantage and I intend to capitalise on their strength in the coming races, starting with Malacca this weekend.”

This weekend’s race in Malacca will be held at Stadium Hang Jebat.

Haffiz is clearly happy with his machine and new team.
