PETALING JAYA: The National Bowling Championships and Inter-State Championships have been postponed from March 23-30 to June in anticipation of the general election.
“We are taking precautionary action to postpone both events to avoid unnecessary disruption to the championships,” said Cheah Ban Cheng, the acting secretary-general of the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC).
“We will discuss soon to decide the new dates in June for the meets. However, no other tournaments in the local calendar will be affected with this postponement,” added Ban Cheng.
The national and inter-state meet is an important feature in the local calendar as part of MTBC’s efforts to unearth new talents.
Teen sensation Mohd Rafiq Ismail, who finished a creditable third in the World Bowling Tour’s recent International Bowling Championships in Nagoya, Japan, was spotted at the national meet two years ago.
The 16-year-old plus Timmy Tan, Saffique Ikhwan Mohd Adhan, Tan Kean Hong, Wan Nadzmi Fikri Mohd Faisal, Victoria Chin, Nora Lyana Nastasia Norkamal and Nur Syazwani Sahar were then roped into the MTBC special squad.
