PETALING JAYA: Nabil Jefri of Malaysia completed his Merdeka weekend abroad on a perfect note by chalking up two more podium finishes in the fifth round of the Formula German F3 series at the Nuerburgring circuit.
On Sunday, the 20-year-old finished second in Race 2 and followed it up with a third placing in Race 3.
Petronas-backed Nabil, who was second in Race 1 on Saturday, was denied a victory by Dane Nicolai Sylvest in Race 2. Sylvest claimed his first win this season by clocking 21:13.100 while Nabil was second in 21:13.837. Sam Macleod of Britain finished third in 21:15.572.
Markus Pommer of Germany clocked 30:53.255 in wet conditions to win Race 3 ahead of Macleod (31:00.539) and Nabil (31:08.115).
Nabil, driving for team Motopark, was delighted to be on the podium in all the three races at Nuerburgring.
To date, he has nine podium finishes, including a win, and is placed second overall in the championship standings with 192 points. Pommer leads with a 278 total.
“I scored quite a few points here to extend the gap on Holland’s Indy Dontje (who is third in the standings with 167 points). That’s the most important thing for me right now. Winning the championship will be difficult as Markus is doing a really good job.
“I am really happy about how the races went for me this weekend as I pushed hard until the end.
“It’s satisfying to see the Malaysian flag raised on Merdeka Day,” said Nabil from Nuerburgring.
The sixth round will take place in Lausitzring from Sept 12-14.
