PETALING JAYA: Hafizh Syahrin finished seventh for his best performance of the season at the Indianapolis Grand Prix in the United States.
The Petronas-backed rider, in his maiden season in Moto2, started from 13th but made up ground to eventually cross the finish line 18.67 seconds behind winner Mika Kallio of Finland (26:07.410). Azlan Shah Kamaruddin of Idemitsu Honda Team Asia finished 20th.
The 20-year-old Hafizh’s previous best performance was 10th in the German Grand Prix at Sachsenring in June.
He collected nine points in Sunday’s race to move up to 21st in the championship standings on 18 points.
“I’m deeply grateful to my team and my sponsor Petronas for their support. To my fans, I thank you. This is a Hari Raya gift from me to you," said Hafizh.
In Moto3, Zulfahmi Khairudin of Ongetta-AirAsia bagged a point after finishing 15th while Amirul Hafiq Azmi of SIC Ajo was placed 24th.
