Zamri sets modest target in Indonesia

PETALING JAYA: Mohd Zamri Baba is not taking things for granted despite having clinched a SuperSports 600cc double at the season-opening Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) in Sepang in April.

The 31-year-old Musashi Boon Siew Honda rider underlined his title credentials by triumphing in both races to earn the maximum 50 points and top the overall standings.

However, he was quick to play down his chances for this weekend’s second round at the Sentul International Circuit in Indonesia.

Although he has a good record at the 4.12km Sentul circuit, having claimed one victory and one second placing there last year, he has set him himself a modest target of finishing ahead of his closest rivals – team-mate Makoto Tamada as well as Kawasaki’s Katsuaki Fujiwara and Yamaha’s Yuki Ito.

He feels that he needs more time before he can get the best out of his new Honda machine.

“Everything is different ... it will take some time before I fully adapt to the Honda machine. I’m under no pressure to continue winning this weekend,” said Zamri.

“Sentul will be my toughest challenge with Honda to date. We expect the front group to be a lot bigger than that in Sepang, with (H.A.) Yudhistira and (M.) Fadli in the mix. They will have home advantage. My objective is just to finish ahead of Fujiwara, Tamada and Ito and maintain our lead in the standings.”
