KUALA LUMPUR: After enjoying a series of decent results in the first half of the 2014 season, Malaysia’s teenage karting sensation Muizzuddin Musyaffa Abdul Gafar is all geared up for his next ‘now-or-never’ mission in Italy.

Muizzudin, who will turn 13 next February, has set his sights on conquering the CSAI Italian Karting Championship Mini 60 overall title, with the first leg getting under way this weekend (May 23-25) at the La Conca Circuit in Muro Leccese Leece.

It will be the Cheras-born youngster’s final attempt at seeking a victory in the class, which imposes an age limit of 13.

Since arriving in Italy four years ago, Muizzuddin had been competing against older and physically bigger boys from all over the world in the Mini 60.

But it won’t be the same this year as he will be armed with three years of experience – from two full seasons and selected rounds in his first year.

“The mission is clear and simple – to win the Mini 60 overall title,” said Muizzuddin, who flew back to Italy on Tuesday after taking a well-deserved three-week break in Malaysia.

“That has always been the target since I started this project with my parents. I owe it to them and to myself.”

Muizzuddin has certainly established himself as a genuine contender, having captured his maiden overall title at the prestigious WSK Champions Cup in February – making him the country’s most successful go-karter.

It was at La Conca that he achieved the feat ... and he is hoping that the track will remain his lucky venue.

In the two-round championship at the circuit, Muizzuddin finished fourth in the opening race but immediately bounced back the following weekend – on March 3 – to complete a dominating 1-2 finish for Gamoto Racing, with team-mate Fetisor Bogdan finishing second.

Apart from the five rounds of the CSAI Italian Championship, Muizzuddin will also be racing at the prestigious season-ending CSAI Karting Trophy on Nov 9 and the Superkarts National USA XVIII in Las Vegas, where he finished second in the Mini 60 category last year.
