And on Saturday, the 18-year-old Ramdan showed that he is heading on the right track to be the country's top rider when he blazed the fast lanes in Le Mans to win his first Moto3 point.
The Petronas AHM Malaysia rider came in 15th in the Spanish National Championships (CEV) when he finished the nine-lap race with a time of 16:04.635.
Held as a support event for the fifth round of the World Motorcyle Championships (MotoGP), the race was initially meant for 13-lap race but an accident involving three riders on the starting grid saw it reduced to nine instead.
Homester Fabio Quartararo received thunderous cheers from the fanatical fans when he took the chequered flag with a time of 15:50.104.
Spaniard Gabriel Rodrigo and Asia Dream Cup graduate Hiroki Ono of Japan came in second and third with times of 15:53.932 and 15:54.077 respectively.
For Ramdan, it was a special moment - especially this being his only second Moto3 outing and a first at Le Mans.
“This is our first time racing here at Le Mans and to end the weekend with a point is something very special. I feel very encouraged especially after a disappointing race at Jerez last month. Credit to the team who did a great job setting up the bike,” said an elated Ramdan.
"This is my second Moto3 race so it goes without saying it was very challenging. We started with zero knowledge because we did not come here to do any test unlike the winning team.”
"There was a big crash but fortunately, I managed to stay out of it."
The Selangor lad, who has won two Cub Prix Championships in 2009 and 2010, hopes to be a full-fledged rider in Moto2 next year if all goes well.
"I am still learning but I am confident that I will be able to make it big one day. It takes a lot of sacrifice and hard work and I am willing to do it."
On his next immediate assignment - the third round of the CEV in Aragon from June 7-8, he said: "All in all it has been a very positive weekend for the team. We hope to have a similar result if not better in the next round at Aragon where we have tested twice before."
