PETALING JAYA: Sasitharen Sukumaran will get his first taste of premier class racing when he suits up for Yuzy Racing in the season opener of the 2014 Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at the Stadium Batu Kawan, Penang, this weekend.
Sasi, second runner-up in the CP115 category in 2012, has signed a one-year deal that will see him replace Wan Hadri Wan Mukhtar and form a new partnership with Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi in a reinforced CP130 line-up with Mohd Rozaiman Mohd Said maintaining his place in the CP115 category.
“I can’t imagine a better way to start the new season with Yuzy Racing which I have huge respect for. This opportunity opens a new chapter in my racing career and although the journey will be tough, I’m ready to work hard and achieve the best possible results,” said Sasi.
Team manager Shahrol Yuzy Ahmad Zaini backs the youngster to bide his time in settling into his new role.
“Sasi is a proven contender and we are delighted he is joining us this season. We hope he grabs this opportunity with both hands and makes the most of it,” said Shahrol.
“Of course, 2014 will be his learning year in the premiere class. We have not set any specific goals, as in finishing at a certain position or number of championship points. The only pressure is to show an upward trend,” he added.
