Ahmad Fuad’s final day flourish seals Cub Prix title

SHAH ALAM: Faito Yamaha Motobert rider Ahmad Fuad Baharudin rounded up an impressive weekend by winning the final CP130 race of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championships in Shah Alam to clinch his third overall title in the premier class competition.

Pole-sitter Fuad was way too good for his rivals, clocking 17:54.609. Yahama Maju Motor’s Ahmad Fazli Sham was second in 17:56.887 while Mohd Fitri Ashraf Razali clocked 17:58.150 to complete the podium.

Norizman Ismail of Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda, who was trailing Fuad in the championship by one point, could only finish 12th.

With the win, Fuad amassed a total of 153 points while Norizman finished second on 131 points. Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi of Givi Honda Yuzy Pachie was third on 122 points.

“I’m really happy getting the win today. It was a very tough season for us in the team as we always pushed the bike to the limits,” said Fuad, whose earlier overall triumphs came in 2002 and 2010.

In the CP115 class, Petronas Yamaha CKJ’s Mohd Shariffudin Shamsuddin crossed the line in 15:09.162 to win the race. The Motul Yamaha YY Pang duo of Mohd Izzat Zaidi Salehan and Tengku Amirul Haffiruddin settled for second and third in 15:10.206 and 15:10.619 respectively.

Ahmad Afif Amran of Petronas Yamaha CKJ, who was crowned the overall champion in the penultimate round at the Sepang International Circuit last month, finished seventh.

In the Wira class, independent rider Mohd Adam Norrodin grabbed his second win of the season with a time of 12:19.009. Kasma Daniel Kasmayudin of Permata Budimas AFB Tech settled for second place in 12:20.853 while Mohd Syafiq Rosli was third in 12:21.199.

The overall champion was Mohd Hafiza Rofa of Warner Pumps YSP, who clinched the title in Round Eight in Jempol in October.
