KUALA LUMPUR: Leading Malaysian international racer Jazeman Jaafar will evaluate his options for next season in the coming weeks as he undergoes GP2 and Formula Renault 3.5 Series (FR3.5) tests.
The Petronas talent programme driver recently finished his debut season in Formula Renault 3.5 Series with a third placing in Monaco and four Top 10 finishes.
The two options available for Jazeman are the GP2 and FR3.5 series.
With official test sessions for both series being held this month, Jazeman will use the opportunity to explore the opportunities available to him for next year.
Jazeman will take part in a three-day GP2 test in Abu Dhabi, an event which follows on from the weekend’s Formula One event at the venue, which also features the GP2 Series.
Driving with Carlin, the team he has raced with for the last four years in the British F3 and FR3.5 Series, Jazeman will be driving a single-seater in Abu Dhabi for the first time, having raced in a sportscar on his previous visit in early 2012.
The FR3.5 Series test takes place a few weeks after the GP2 test in Motorland Aragon, Spain.
“It will be good experience for me to drive in these tests in two different cars,” Jazeman said.
“I’m obviously familiar with the Formula Renault 3.5 Series car but I have not driven a GP2 car with Pirelli tyres ... so I’m looking forward to finding out how different, or similar, they are.
“Abu Dhabi will be a good circuit to try out the car as it’s very smooth, quite challenging technically but also a fairly wide, open track.
“It’s important for me to be in a car as much as possible ... so, having the FR3.5 Series test soon after the GP2 will keep me on my toes.
“I’ll be going straight to Macau for the Macau Grand Prix, running in the British F3 car. So, within the space of one month, I would have driven three categories of cars and had plenty of running, which is just how I like it.”
Jazeman will take to the Abu Dhabi circuit from Tuesday to Thursday.
