Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi is realistic about his chances at this weekend's Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in Jempol, Negri Sembilan. Still nursing an injury, Zaqhwan is targeting a top five finish.
PETALING JAYA: Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi is hoping for a top five finish in this weekend’s Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in Jempol, Negri Sembilan, as he seeks to stay in contention for the CP130 title race.
Zaqhwan fractured his collarbone during his Moto2 appearance as a replacement rider for Technomag carXpert in the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) two weeks ago. He was involved in an opening lap pile-up involving Axel Pons, Fadli Immammuddin, Ezequiel Iturrioz and Decha Kraisat. All the riders escaped with minor injuries.
And Zaqhwan, of team Givi Honda Yuzy Pachie, is aware that he may not be at his best due to the injury.
That why he has set himself just a top five finish.
Zaqhwan is second overall in the rider standings with 93 points – 14 points behind leader Norizman Ismail (107pts).
“I’m still nursing my injury but I’m determined for this weekend. In these final stages, we can’t afford to throw away championship points,” said Zaqhwan.
“My collarbone still hurts but I won’t let it get in my way.
“I just hope to finish in the top five and take the battle to Sepang ... or even the final round. If I can finish on the podium or win, that would be a bonus.”
