Amirul Hafiq Azmi clocked the 23rd fastest time of 2:17.289 after the second free practice session on Oct 11, 2013.
SEPANG: The Malaysian Moto3 wildcard riders are giving a good account of themselves at the Sepang International Circuit.
After the second free practice session on Friday, Amirul Hafiq Azmi clocked the 23rd fastest time of 2:17.289 while Husni Aizat Abdul Malik came in 28th in 2:17.865.
It was the first time that the Touchline SIC Ajo duo were using the new Moto3 engine. Previously, they had only tested it in the Spanish Championships.
“It was a totally different engine and, by the looks of it, there is still room for improvement,” said Amirul.
“The weather played a part in today’s practice because it rained during the second session in the afternoon, but I’m confident of shaving off some time in tomorrow’s qualifying.”
Amirul changed his gearbox from the morning session as the data showed that he was using a slightly shorter gear ratio.
“I wanted to improve in the second practice but it rained. I only managed a lap on wet tyres but it wasn’t enough,” he said.
Meanwhile, Husni said he is still finding the right set-up for the bike before taking on the qualifying on Saturday.
“I’m happy with my time because initially 2:17 was my target today. But I’m hoping that it won’t rain tomorrow because I’m still getting used to the bike and the rain will just make it harder for me,” he said.
