PETALING JAYA: Seventy young riders from Malaysia are among the 188 hopefuls who have been picked for the 2014 Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup selection to be held at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) Go-Kart Track from Oct 14-16.
The 188 riders, aged between 13 and 19 and including seven girls, will be assessed during track sessions in the three-day selection process and only 22 will make the cut for the inaugural Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup slated to be held next year.
They will race on Honda NSF250R Moto3 race bikes.
The championship is the first pan-Asia motorcycle talent search and will serve as a new feeder series to the MotoGP world championship. It is targeted at increasing the number of entries in the world championship from the Asian region.
Races are set for Japan, Malaysia and Qatar in conjunction with the respective countries’ Grand Prix. There will also be a race in India, alongside the World Superbike Championship, and further rounds in Indonesia and China.
A total of 697 applications were received from 20 countries.
