PETALING JAYA: After back-to-back podium finishes in the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championships, Norizman Ismail is confident of another good result in Round Seven in Temerloh, Pahang, this weekend.
Norizman, who has yet to win a race this season, finished second in Rounds Five (Muar) and Six (Kluang) recently.
The Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing is leading the CP130 championship with 82 points – just one ahead of Faito Yamaha Motobert’s Ahmad Fuad Baharuddin (81pts) and seven clear of Petronas Syntium Moto Yamaha AHM’s Mohd Ramdan Mohd Rosli (75pts).
“We are inching closer to the finish line, with four more rounds to go, and this is where things get really interesting. Everyone is thinking about the championship and will be going all out to achieve it,” said Norizman, who won the premier class crown in 2005 and 2011.
But he is not about to throw caution to the wind. Instead, he plans to win the title this year by being consistent, even if that means not winning a race.
For the record, K. Sivanesan and Suhadi Ali Rahmat are the only riders to have ever won the championship without winning a race. Sivanesan won it in 2004 while Suhadi did it two years later.
“They finished on the podium ... either second or third ... and I believe that playing it safe will boost our chances of winning again this year,” said Norizman.
