Elly Idzlianizar Ilias: 'It will take a couple of races for me to get into the groove again.'
KUALA LUMPUR: After a year’s absence from the racing scene, Elly Idzlianizar Ilias will be back on the track at the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at Stadium Kluang in Johor this weekend.
Elly, who called off his campaign midway through last season with a lower back injury, will ride for Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing in the CP130 class for the remaining five rounds this season
He will fill the slot left by defending champion Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, who will be riding in the MotoGP.
The 29-year old Elly’s comeback makes him the team’s first new face in the past two years.
Elly will team up with two-time Expert-CP130 champion Norizman Ismail, Mohd Affendi Rosli and Mohd Fitri Ashraf Razali.
“I’m very happy to have the chance to ride again, especially for such a highly-respected team like SCK Racing,” said Elly.
“There is a lot of pressure riding for SCK Racing as the team are on their way to their third consecutive team award. Although I want to do my part in helping them, I’m approaching this weekend’s race realistically because I have a lot of catching up to do.
“It will take a couple of races for me to get into the groove again.”
Elly has plenty of experience racing in the CP130 class, having represented several top teams like AHM, Maju Motor Racing and Global Bike Racing.
He also competed for FortyOne Racing in the first five races of last year. He even partnered Moto3 rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin in the 2009 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix as a wildcard in the GP125 category.
